Howdy forum. My starboard side surf gate (A22 2014) is currently stuck in the “out” position. I’ve had this occur more than a handful of times. Sometimes I get lucky and after I reset or calibrate the gates it will go back in, but no such luck on my last outing. I’m thinking it probably time to replace. Anyone out there who has swapped it out for a new one? Doesn’t look like it would be difficult...however, I’m not sure where the electrical wire leads inside the bottom of the transom near the stern hull (and if it’s easily “unplugged” to attach a new one- see attached pics). Would appreciate any advice! ImageImage

Follow the wiring inside and unplug its easy to find. You have to unpin the connector unbolt from the gare, unscrew from the transom and remove. Use 3m5200 on transom when you install the new one

Thanks for the reply dustinjean. Any chance on where you ordered the new actuator and 3m500? And can you recall how much you paid? Appreciate it!

I had to remove my actuator to add a shim the factory left out when they repaired my hull. But i would call your local dealer or bakes marine for the actuator. And our local lowes, homedepot, cabelas, etc. All carry 3m 5200 its a marine sealant

Does he have to demount carpet in rear of locker on transom to trace and remove old wire lead to box and fish new lead

Did he run surfgate service after calibration ?, I usually need to do both , mine only get partially deployed stuck when we do a failed transfer and the paddle doesn’t retract fully when it didn’t fully deploy, sometimes for other situations but it always takes service mode with calibration

On mine the wiring was outside of the carpet but we know how every build seems to be different. And i put them in service mode when i removed it if i remember correctly and when finished i did not have to recalibrate, worked good all season

5 year warranty started in 16.

15 and back were 1 year parts and labor and then 2nd year parts only.

I timed my gates for transfers while driving and checking out a new prop
and level surfing set ups so I could start practicing again (we list heavy usually)

The older actuators are usually more reliable than you guys have experienced, buuut they were 8 seconds including extensive stearing into the wave formation , one day I may need to
Upgrade one day, that is so slow, I now know why I can kill them in faster systems but only hit one behind my boat ever, I’ll have to surf the foam ball for at least 3-5 of those seconds . Glad I surf the foam ball already for lots of fun , now I need to use that as a strategy fir transfers
