I think This case was just a fluke, my friend has a 2001 tige and his hasn't had any problems in 4 years, I think mine just was bad from the get go, then the dealer's carelessness didn't help matters much. The seal should be pretty much maintenance free for at least 200 hrs. Mine Is now. And for the record mine started leaking bad at about 45hrs. Total BS

Fantastic write-up Walter again! I have 350+ hours on mine and its leaking like a sieve. Looks like I have a new project on my to-do. This is my first inboard and never done a shaft alignment before, (Ill go google it) but any suggestions specific to this hardware. OR is "check the flange clearance" different thing altogether?

Are those notes written in your palm about next projects ideas? ;-)

That prop looks great. More like a turbine than a prop. Im waiting for this design on a smaller scale for an AXIS:

Oh that is a whole thread all in itself!! Checking it is easy, adjusting it takes black magic! There are so many adjustment points that one wrong move and it's worse than when you started, although you do get some forgiveness in the strut bushing, adjusting the alignment is not for the novice. I'm not sure I'd attempt mine without supervision. A bore laser would be an awesome tool to have for this.

You're supposed to have the alignment checked/adjusted yearly. I'd like to be able to adjust it myself, but not sure I'm brave enough to tackle even with the needed tools. I bent the strut, shaft, and prop running up on a sandbar on my Supra. I believe the bill was 2500 if my memory is correct.

Nice post Walter...You got a set of brass ones to tackle that project!

Walter, how does the flange go back onto the shaft? Does it need to be pressed on?

It's just a tapered keyway like the end the prop goes on, I just used the nut and zipped it back in place with an impact, it was much tighter than the prop end.

I'm not sure what the exact torque spec was but my impact probably got it between 70-90ft lbs, I have put about 30-40 hours on the boat since changing over and not a single drop of water has made it past the new seal, I have experienced absolutely zero alignment issues and no vibrations with 3 different props tried out, I love it, no more auto bilge every hour..

Thanks. Mine isn't dripping, it looks like a small drinking water stream. I'm gonna do the drip less seal probably this winter sometime.

I have just a few hours shy of 150.
