Post subject:  Stereo wiring question

So I have some noise from my stereo so I want to rewire the whole thing..

I have:

-Exile ZLD
-Factory deck (all I use it for is remote turn on for amps)
-Exile BT
-5 channel amp
-2 channel amp

I ordered all new RCA cables but I also want to rewire power and ground for the stuff on the drivers helm. I want to isolate them from everything else on the boat. Is it okay to run a power and ground from the battery to a terminal block under the dash and them hook up the head unit, ZLD and BT to it? Or do I need to run independent lines for each? I assume I want to grab power and ground from the same posts on the same battery that the amps are wired to?

I have developed a bad whine and static sound when the ballast pumps are on..

Thank you
Brad

how many batteries do you have and how are they hooked up (i.e. perko / blue sea add a battery / etc)? Where do the amps get their power (straight from battery or from perko common post or....)?

Factory dual battery setup and switch (not sure brand but I can look tonight). Currently the amps are wired directly to one of the batteries.

OK so first off I'd wire the amps B+ to the common post on the switch (so your stereo isn't drawing down one battery while you use another). The other bonus is that the amps will be cut off from power when you turn the switch off.

Then take a 10awg duplex wire run either from your amps' distro blocks or from one of your amp's power block itself over to the helm to power the stereo accessories there. Remember to fuse that wire from the amps. I've had good luck in the past using a blue sea 5025 power/ground block. Make sure you don't hook up more accessories than the 10awg can handle (unlikely with EQ / BT). Connect the accessories to the fuse block with ring terminals. Make sure you get good crimps on them, and it never hurts to solder them.

My ws420sw had a bad engine noise until I ran power and ground for the factory head unit and the 420sq straight to the amp distribution blocks, have you done that?

Great input I was thinking pretty much the same as what you are saying. I assume ground the amps directly to the B battery? And all grounds to the same battery?

Okay just to clarify you say b+ common so you mean on the b battery side or on the common post so it's drawing off both batteries?

Just pick a battery, one or the other. Doesn't matter which because the two batteries are also grounded to one another. I would have one fat trunk line (0awg) to the battery, which goes to your ground distro block, where your amps are grounded. You'd also ground all of your stereo accessories there too (HU/EQ/BT) via the ground/fuse block discussed above.
