After demoing the '14 A22 w surfgate and crunching numbers I realized I'm still a year or so away from an upgrade. So I wanted to try to make a manual poor-mans wave making device. I tested it out today and was amazed at how well it worked. I didn't put much time into it bc I didn't think it would really work. Here's some progression pics of the build.

Painted, coated and cut to match the hull. I used a piece of pipe insulation on the front edge to seam it up to the hull and to protect the gel coat.

I didn't want to alter the swim deck in case it didn't work. So I just used some clamps to keep it on. I honestly thought the clamps would have a hard time keeping it in place but it worked. I'll post videos in a bit.

For a few dollars in wood that looks pretty good. If you did a version 2 would you change anything? Would you put it any lower? How was the boat weighed?

I only had less than an hour to play around with it today. I may see what happens if I lengthen it about 2 inches and have it sit a lil deeper in the water. Although I didn't try it with the rear 750s full yet. I'll post videos with the weights now. I'm eager to try out another, and see how I could tweak it a bit more. And yeah, it's definitely a cheap prototype. Didn't want to put a lot of time and effort into it in case it was a dud.

This video is with two adults and my 9 y.o. son in the boat and no ballast filled at all. Speed was 10.6 mph (not calibrated). I wanted to start out slowly in case it ripped right off.

Awesomely simple! Great work and thanks for sharing. You are the 1st AXIS DIY Surfgate!! I have a new project for this weekend!

If it wasn't for the notch, that would be interchangeable with both sides.

Thanks man. Yeah I thought about trying to make it universal so it'd be able to just switch to the other side. That may be the next prototype.

This quick video is with the center tank full, front PnP empty, and both the rear 750 PnPs filled just under halfway, but totally equal with no listing to one side. Speed was 10.6-11mph. I usually ride at 12.8 but didn't get a chance to take it above 11mph today. I can't wait to teak the weight and speed a bit more to find the perfect setup. Sorry for the poor footage. My 9 y.o. was the videographer.
