My remote thermoater in the plastic engine tray confirms it has never dipped below 40.

How does this work? Is there an element inserted into the block or is it just an external heater?

Just a hairdryer in a box stamped with uscg approval. Comes on at 40 deg.

Yes - No winterization needed here in VA. I wouldnt recommend it up north, besides who using thier boat unless its an ice crusher. I went with the largest version to try and heat the entire boat including the heater core under the dash. I got it >$400, but that was on sale. http://www.xtremeheaters.com/ Boat safe also makes a good heater: http://www.theboatsafe.com/
