[quote="gibbs114"]All the new axis engines say 87 in the Manuel I believe.

You are correct. The manual covers the 5.7, 6.0, 6.0 HO, and 6.2 L engines. Here's what it says:

Crusader Challenger Fuel Injected engines
are calibrated to operate on and provide optimum
performance when using fuel with at least an 87 octane
fuel rating. Crusader Challenger’s engine control
module incorporates Adaptive Learn Technology to
ensure optimum engine performance is obtained when
using fuel rated higher than 87 octane.

I think it's more an Ethanol issue, more than an octane issue. Most Premium gas has no ethanol. Most all 87 contains ethanol. Ethanol is hard on seals.

Really? That's reason enough for me. I don't know if that's true though.

Unless you live in Missouri or Montana that is:

Ethanol is the only reason I run premium. I do have access to 89 no ethanol on my lake but at 4.39 a gallon on the lake.

kwik trip will give me 91 no ethanol for much less. 2.89. Dealer told me not to run ethanol in by 2012 a22.

Also my understanding that ethanol gas only lasts so long, starts to separate after a while don't know if that's true or not.

Manual states 87 or higher AND less than 10% Ethanol.

Agree with the above posts that it is all about Ethanol.

Look around on some of the forums and look at all of the fuel related problems. There's a lot of them.

I do fine with 89. Just don't get cheap gas. I usually stick with chevron or shell. When i put cheap gas in my truck I can totally tell a difference when towing. I will stay away from cheap gas completely in my boat.
