Wow, that sucks, sorry to hear about your loss and I hope the insurance settlement works out OK.

I've had a few waves come over the front but never feared that they could swamp the boat. I'm guessing you were pretty weighed down and kicking a big wave behind you... that the driver must have spun right in to.

A lesson for us to all to learn from.

I think there were 4 adults in the front. No ballast filled at all. The more I think about it and read what y'all are saying it sounds like the driver throttled at the wrong time and then the wrong time again. My 19 yr old daughter said when the wave came over the bow she ran back and slammed the throttle down. That sounds like a mistake as well. Here are some pics of it being floated up.

As you can see the front ballast bag is floating no water was in that bag.

So I guess the biggest question is how much water does it take? I really feel like you would have to drive the nose under the water for this to happen... Of couse I am no expert though.. Either way that sucks

^Ya, that's the million dollar question. We have had a couple of scares, mostly due to other boats circling us or something like that. We have taken on quite a bit of water, but the bow was always very quick when it dipped down and bounced right back up over the roller. It sounds like Potato's boat dipped down under, didn't bounce up quickly due to the weight configuration, and the nose went down further after the driver throttled forward.

I'd never have 4 adults in the bow. That would be recipe for disaster if you are surfing, came off throttle, then your wake wash would typically catch up to the rear of the boat, lift the rear up slightly while dipping the bow down. Add to that some unexpected rollers and maybe a slightly inexperienced driver or panic driver...boat gets sunk. I can see it happening. A24 time?

Yeah but he had no ballast full. So 4 adults is probably the equivalent of ballast full.

Exactly, 4 adults in the bow without any rear ballast to counteract, the rear is more easily lifted and the bow easier to dip.
