^Spot on. Think of how high the rear was riding since there was no rear weight, especially after the wash caught up like AJ said. Think of how much lower the bow was in the water with no rear weight. Sounds like the boat was in an easier position to nose dive.

There were 12 people in the boat! At 150 lbs average, minus the 4 in the front, that's 1200 pounds in the cabin. Pretty evenly weighted.

I see your point, but my assumption is low, rear weight in the back lockers and higher weight in the cabin are two totally different things. Could have even made it worse depending on how many people were in the cabin and were sitting closer to the center/bow area instead of towards the back.

Crazy that with the ballast empty the tanks didn't have the buoyancy to keep afloat...... Either way I'm just glad no one was hurt

I am still blown away by this ...... the stars had to align with all of the correct circumstances imo. I am sure it happens more often then not but I think this is still a pretty rare situation

Last summer we had a really scary situation, we got caught in a tail end of a tornado and took on water that was up to the access hole by the driver. I stuck my tsunami pump in there until we could get tied up somewhere safe. Life jackets are a pain in the butt laying on the floor beside people but is an extra safety precaution we take now. Because you never know.

There have been plenty of pics of Mastercrafts and Malibus that were swamped on shore from choppy conditions. Had those boats not been in shallow water, they would've sunk as well
