Hi,

I just purchased a 2012 Axis A20 from my buddy. ( :D ) I will need to lower the tower to fit in my garage each winter (boat sits on a lift during the summer) and to get under a low bridge each time I get onto the lake.

When attempting to lower the tower, I found that the hoop hits the cushion in front of the engine compartment. As a result, the side supports (which I found, somewhat counterintuitively, collapse on the outside of the hoop and cannot be made to collapse in front of the hoop) are not able to close down very far (they project ~1.5 feet above the windshield). In order to get the boat into the garage, I had to completely unbolt and remove the side supports to get the total height of the boat low enough to fit in my garage.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to fully collapse the tower without having to remove the side supports?

Thanks in advance

Spencer

just been doing similar with my 2011 - dealer told me to remove the side supports and then support the hoop at whatever level you want with some blocks of wood

There were two tower options for the model year. Hinges at the bottom with 2 bolts at the top of each support arm or 4 bolts on each support. I assume your text means you have hinges at the bottom of the support arm. I have hinges. My support arms go into the boat before I fold the rest of the tower down. You lift the tower higher than full deployed height to allow the arms to rotate down into the boat.
This of course means that both arms can fall down into the boat when you lift the tower to max height. You need to be prepared to both, hold up the tower and support both arms - like you have 3 hands. You have to figure out your own little dance if you do it yourself, or get a partner to help. I do it myself with 1 set of 9" tower speakers. 2 rev 410s or something would be really difficult.
