Ordered 2 new seat skins for my 2012 axis a 20. Skins came in but with the textured newer vinyl. Call dealer and sent comparison pictures. Got a call today that Malibu no longer has the smooth vinyl from 2012 and older?

Waiting for contact info for Malibu . Now suck with the option of trying to find the stock vinyl or I'll have to replace all the vinyl on the boat. Its ridiculous that I can't get a replacement for a four year old boat.

Anybody else having this issue?

I hope someone told you wrong.. That really sucks if true. Maybe a marine vinyl shop can help or at least get a really close match?

I was told by a dealer that Malibu/Axis stocks vinyl for the 5 previous model years. Technically, a '12 model is five years old since the '17's are rolling out. I could use a couple rear corner skins on my '12 model A22.

I have a very small cut from surf fin on the top of my rear seat back. Dealer quoted $780.00 for new skin. I think that's crazy. What do you all think? I just ordered a 3M repair kit, I think I can easily match color. I'm going to try that first. If I screw it up, I may go to a local shop see if there's an acceptable option.

I used a local vinyl repair shop that was mobile on my sliding rear seat cushion. They came out, melted a reinforcement into the skin, using a heat gun and a closely matched grain pattern, he accurately textured it and finally, custom matched the color and dyed the area that was repaired.

Can you tell where it was repaired if I didn't tell you? No

Can I tell exactly where it is and once I point it out it's easily noticeable? Yes

However for $35 it was money well spent. Typical he charges a touch more but he was retired Army and I'm active duty Navy and he got to tell some old stories and relive some glory days so it was an enjoyable experience.

We use a local repair guy. He does an amazing job and has worked magic on some tears. I would leave it up to a professional to do repairs. I have in the past had it done by a 'rookie' and the patch was terrible and fell off after a month.
Most shops probably use the same guy and just marks up his T&M when they quote you the price. Ask around because that same repair guy is probably doing 80% of the dealers work in the area.

Couple of my seats are pulling apart at the piping. Will be calling to get some new skins too i guess. Only 170 hrs on the boat. Seems pretty early to be having issues.

Are you letting people stand, step, or kneel on the seats directly on the piping?

Here is the response from Malibu. Very dissatisfied with this . I followed this
with a few questions. No response as of Friday evening.

"We do support replacements for 5- years, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee and exact match on vinyl... When the manufacture discontinues a color or texture, we try to match it to the closest available to support our Customers."
