My buddy has decided to downsize his assets to free up some cash. He is planning to purchase the Tige tomorrow. What kind of wake is he expected to get from it? He says his research showed it having a good wakeboard wake and plans to make surf gates for it. Any opinions out there?

No cruise control is a deal killer, a friend of mine has a 2001 2300v, it's a nice boat but it washes and is sensitive, surf wave is descent if you list the crap outta it with about 2k, it froze last winter ad took out the block, hasn't been on the water in 2 years.

If he loaded his axis with 400pnp and bow sac the tige doesn't hold a candle to it.

When does it wash? '65 or 70' back?

Dezul, I owned a 2002 23V prior to my A22. Talk him out of it!!! He will not be happy. They drive like aircraft carriers and take as much weight to have a wave that's ridable. Wake is washed from 65' back and the more weight you add the worse it gets. Motor has a very hard time with any real weight. Handles wakes and chop nicely but the trade off is extremely poor turning radius. 2004 and newer Tiges are much better boats.

Any suggestions on a boat that throws a decent wakeboard wake for $25k? I have another buddy chasing the same route as this one. I personally would look at some newer Moombas, Sangers, and MBs. I heard good things about Sangers and MBs

I know when my budget was around there I almost pulled the trigger on a pretty nice Moomba for 20k. Ended up waiting a year to save up and get an a22 though.

I honestly see a ton of older MBs cruising the lake and if I were back in that spot I'd give that a second look. I'm betting their quality would be a little bit better despite being older, but thats just an assumption.

There is a 2001 Moomba LSV for sale on the moomba forums for $21k I believe.

Has he already sold his A22?

How much is the Tige?

I'd give it a hard look at what his 'real' savings would be in making the trade. I'd also consider older Malibu/Mastercrafts as there are plenty of people modifying/owning these and putting out nice wakes.

I would highly recommend a 2000 - 2003 VLX. Not a decent wakeboard wake... but very legit! I would not hesitate to own this boat.

Mid-20s has 3 good options.

00-03 Sunsetter/Wakesetter
96+ Mastercraft 205v
99+ Super Air Nautique

MBs of the affordable vintage won't clean up at slower speeds, older Moombas are junk boats, Sangster are supposed to be good boats, but they are mostly non-existent in the East Coast.

My buddy bought the boat and we went out on it. It is a beast. It was better than expected. Not a bad boat considering the year. The surf looked okay and the wake wasn't bad. It makes Axis look like G23 when discussing wakes though. My buddy told me about all the things he plans to do to it and it makes me wonder why he didn't just buy a boat for 30k and call it good. The boat requires too much time and effort for me to spend 20k on. It is huge though. It easily seats 17. It also took chop like a champ. I am happy I have an Axis though.
